Stage 1 - Denial

You know you’re walking in denial when you refuse to believe or accept reality. Denial is actually the absence of reality.  We choose denial for several reasons.
First, denial helps to dull the pain that comes with facing the reality of the divorce. We hold unto it as a form of comfort when the pain of reality becomes too intense. Another reason we allow ourselves to linger in denial is because of fear. Fear of the unknown, unfamiliar and the possibility of a future alone can be devastating.  Finally, we misconstrue denial as faith. Denial is not faith at all, it actually contradicts faith. God has not given us a spirit of fear but commands us to walk by faith. You’ve got to get real with yourself and answer some crucial questions. Such as:

Why won’t I let go?
Did I see the signs?
Do I want to hold onto this pain?
What do I fear the most?
Do I hate him/her?
Why do I still love her/him?
